Apparently realizing you will starve is the tipping point. It has kind of amazed me it hasn't happened before now.

And I am actually wondering if even starvation will do it. A lot might just let themselves starve.

I think it really takes a leader. Wiemar Germany suffered and then Hitler wnet with his group to march down the streets with war veterans to demand the resignation of the government at the capital and they were met with machine guns that actually fired at them at killed some of the marchers. That also put Hitler on trial which covered world wide in newspapers where he used his defense argument as a rally cry speech against the abuses of the current government making him an overnight hero and landing him in a cushy jail where he wrote his book. Then he was out in a while after his prison term ended and starting winning elections over the next years.

But does Australia have that much time?

But sometimes you've damaged the component to the point that there's no salvaging it and you just gotta toss it.

Nothing was ever made better by smashing it. As a student of percussive maintenance, I can tell you work makes things better. You only need to smash to a point, you smash too much and you end up damaging the subframe or some shit. Smash too much and you drive the cot dang valve guide too low on the head and you gotta start over, that's the worst.
