A long long time ago, you could walk from the mainland to Fraser Island. Thats how the Dingoes arrived. Eventually the oceans changed and the connection between the mainland and FI dissappeared. When Europeans arrived they imported horses to the island. The horses in the process of eating grass also digested sand. Which, in the end killed them. Dingo's ate the dead horses.
Today there are no horses so the Dingo's starve.

BTW the recent bushfires were started by the local Aborigines back burning. Not an English backpacker. The reason they got out of control was because the fire fighting plane was getting a new paint job.
