In actuality, all you need to be "abo" is for some old abos to agree that you're abo. That's it. Even then there are shysters, like Bruce Pascoe (Wrote Dark Emu, a book which claims that abos had advanced agriculture and lived in towns) who claims to be an abo even though all of his great grandparents were born in England.
There are lots of them around though, old white guy with a bit of a tan claims to be abo to get entitlements or job opportunities. Park rangers and the like are notorious for it, it's really hard to get a job as a park ranger, but if you're an abo, it's smooth sailing all the way you can even fuck up all the time and it doesn't matter, because you're an abo.
