The old Grafton Jail was for many years considered Australia's toughest prison known for the "Reception Biff," which meant the screws beat the living sh*t out of new arrivals as soon as they got there, it is said to have "mellowed" in its final yrs whence [HM Prison Goulburn](https://i.postimg.cc/QtF0z9dg/Goulburn-Gaol.png) took up the slack. The facility was built at a cost of about $700 million, and will be operated under a public-private partnership involving the State Government and a consortium compromising John Laing, John Holland and Serco.

So the US style prison industrial complex, run as a for-profit business has finally hit Australia.

The lucky country they say. Bring back old Goulburn gaol.

As well old Grafton Jail was in the past home to the notorious "Trac Division" where those prisoners deemed "Intractable" were housed, the very mention of which put fear into the hearts of hardened criminals, and where those "On Tracs" were bashed by the screws morning and night ..
