I don't use google directly but through duckduckgo. I occasionally use Qwant or Bing directly. While I personally don't use google my University used it big time. I could never understand why this university, a research university, insisted on using google docs and drive for storage. I noticed recently that they have moved email, at least, to outlook. I don't think this is any better for a research university!

So thought I'd try an experiment....

Using dissenter I navigated to google.com.au and searched for my mate Patrick Smith. I got a captcha and this message.

"Our systems have detected unusual traffic from your computer network. This page checks to see if it's really you sending the requests, and not a robot. Why did this happen?"

Umm a bit weird so I tried google.com, same result. Weirder and weirder.....

So I tried chrome and got no message and no captcha. WTF

Oh, and the only Patrick Smith's I could find in the first page were not Australian.

I hope that the Australian Government passes this legislation. For all you Australians who agree, write a quick note to your Federal and Representatives saying you support the legislation.

Edit: cause I was pissed and lived up to my name.
