Nah he was taking the piss - pun intended. He was saying that the natives get all worked up about symbolic issues like Invasion Day but the minute the grog is handed out they get their priorities straight. It was a very politically incorrect thing to do but very funny - imo.

The coons didn't get any of that, they just want free piss, punched each other over what was left and got the nippers smashed.
He shouldn't have fed the seagulls. Maybe blankets with anthrax or some e10 for them to get blind on is about it.
