TL:DR. If you have credits for a free book go for it. Do not spend MSRP on it.

Longer: on the face of it, it seems like a great idea. A full cast of actors to read each role to give it a more realistic feel. In practice, it becomes overwhelming if your trying to listen to a book reading. The added sound effects, and worse, a few of the poor voice choices really detract from the story as a whole. Sadly: the actor for Harry suffers this issue. In the books he's humble (at least in book 1 and 2) and kind. His actor comes across as an obnoxious brat. The main narrator (a nigger) also has a huge issue. She reads the entire thing like a horror story. It's jarring for what is, at least in book 1, supposed to be a whimsical story.

Long story short: if your trying to hear the story for the first time, or listening again, go for the Jim Dale version. This one feels like Harry Potter for tiktok kids. It removes all imagination from the story and instead

6/10. Will listen to the others but my hopes are not high.

I really enjoy the Jim Dale version but the Brit fag Stephen Fry does a really great job as well.

There's another fantasy story by Philip Pullman called His Dark Materials. Pullman narrates with a cast of BBC voice actors and it's quite excellent if you don't try to understand it (it's an attack on the catholic church and religion in general).
