The government needs to do what it was designed to do. Protect it's citizens. In this case that means fostering fucking competition to keep shit companies like comcast and time warner from stomping out everyone else in the market. Not sure how to vote on this one.

Not to protect citizens (courts already said that they don't need to do that) .. protect RIGHTS

But they don't give a rats ass.

You should be upset at the cities as they signed deals so Comcast and Time Warner get that monopoly. Adelphia (remember those assholes?) flat out told me I was free to select another provider because they wouldn't stop me from moving. I asked her if she understood what she just said and she said that was the policy.

These mega-corps need to get broken up, no matter what industry they are in.

Government needs to stay the fuck out of the way. Like all regulations, this will just be used against the small time competition to keep the playing field uneven.

Does anyone doubt why google fought for net neutrality, or netflix, or comcast?

In the end, all "Net Neutrality" will do will be to standardize service between companies. This will help perpetuate the quasi monopolies longer than they would naturally exist. If there were no/minimal regulations on getting into the market, the monopolies would destroy themselves by overcharging when they thought they could get away with it. Smaller businesses would then step in to fill the gap of affordable IP.

There's also the topic of Meshnet that needs to be discussed. Almost free, distributed, uncensorable internet access for the masses is already possible, but it's literally just easier if everyone coughs up $80 a month. Until companies have extremely destructive monopolies in place, the impetus to truly instate a meshnet will not be there. Has to get worse before it gets better. You need to make $50 and 10 hours of work more attractive to Joe Lunchbox than just buying his access to netflix or whatever the fuck he uses internet for.
