I guess if you have some heavy stuff to hang it's a good idea.
With what I work with I've gotten away with wood pegboard.
Wood is by far cheaper, and once it gets soaked in the grease and oil from multiple jobs it's damn near rot proof.

I'm not a welder, diesel mechanic, or an iron worker.
I'm sure steel pegboard has it's place and purpose, just not with me.
Maybe I'm just a cheap ass when it comes to that sort of thing.
Don't let what I say steer you away from it, if you feel you need steel pegboard get it... If you think it would look badass with your setup and have the cash for it, do it.
