I either go to all, which is all the most recently upvoted posts, that include everything, or I go to new, which seems to include all the newest things from every possible sub, or I go to modmulti, which just includes the subs that I own/mod.

Is there something I am missing? Is subscribing pointless, other than seeing how popular your sub is?

It could also be done as a sign of support. Some people have niche subs of mostly their own content or an ideology they support. /s/hoppeanism has 22 subscribers so 22 people must really like that ideology.
