It could still be useful for something because a lot of posts wont make it off the front page, or the front page gets jammed up with relative nonsense or meta.
Also because its so small lots of quality posts in subjects dont make it, you may want quickly know what's new with whatever.
So basically if you are tired of seeing the posts on the front you could switch to / and see things from subs you know are a little different and interesting.

You kind of nailed it. It's because we're still quite small, so doing /new and paging through gets you everything easily. Once they grow more though, it may be to your advantage.
I don't subscribe since Poal is so small that I can absorb the entire contents across all subs. Surely there will come a day when instead of blacklisting my Poalr experience via blocked subs, it'll be pseudo whitelisting via subscriptions.

I subscribe to posts I tend to post often in. That way I don't have to search for it when I want to post there.
Also even though poal is fairly small I do still find when I check son subs I've missed a few posts.
Navigation. You can change the order of your subscriptions list and choose the ones that will show in the sub bar up top. Comes in handy if there are some subs you are going to check frequently. Also, sometimes you wanna go to , the Best jukebox on Poal™, where everybody knows your name, and you're always glad you came to see the wonderful CSS while the miniplayer cycles through the recent songs posted.

i sub to verses i like. I generally when i start got to "hot" then go to all/new
there is a few subs im subbed to, one thing i like about poal... content is kept in appropriate subs
