Morakniv are great fixed blade knives to buy, pretty dang bullet proof, cheap, I've bought about 5 of them and stashed them in different spots. They are super easy to sharpen due to their knife angle. If you screw something up with one you won't feel bad about it.

Opinel makes good pocket knives. Have been my go to recently as they are nice, cheap, and I won't feel bad if I lose one.

If its for self defense get one with a grip. Honestly Walmart sells a 4.5 inch blade with a nice rubber grip for 10 dollars.

I held one of the other day. I have an and a as my Edc. I would highly recommend Benchmade, they do amazing work and their folders lock into what feels like a fixed grip.
