Ethanol, caffeine, nicotine, and hatred.
I like to think I can do better and strive to do so. Other than that, crab rangoons. Shit is tasty. Not everything has meaning.
Can't the biological imperative to exist just be enough? What is with people always demanding a second reason?
Ivan
humans like to see paterns and need a reason for things to exist. Even if there is zero real reason for anything human brains need a reason I think, and without it they just follow self destructive nihilism and pleasure themselves to death.
I disagree.
People naturally seek joy in life, and some do it smartly by learning, increasing their wealth, creating community and family around themselves. Others do it stupidly by chasing hedonism. (Most people do a little of both).
It's only after the fact that those who have done better for themselves decide that it was all because their life had a higher purpose. Ego and ego alone allows them to fool themselves into thinking it was something other than the biological imperative that drove them to live.
Ivan
The fact that you know that its foolish and self destructive to seek joy thru hedonism shows you understand that some paths are not going to lead to happiness for humans.
Without the belief in a higher power most people have zero ability to resist the simple biological pull of hedonism and they turn nihilistic in a dopamine pleasure haze, serotonin happiness system unable to beat the call of immediate gratification.
THAT fact should lead you to understand that lacking a belief in an outside higher reason and order for things leads to unhappiness- even if there really is no reason or higher purpose humans have a deep need to believe that what they do matters.
Cutting away the belief in a higher power or reason destroys people…. Just like being so rich we can eat ourselves to death while saturating our brains with entertainment destroys us- when there isno REASON NOT TO.
Like CS Lewis said the truth might be a truth that leads to death…. If it does do we really want to know it?
I'm just here waiting for Cedric Benson (former NFL RB) to respond to my invitation to dinner.
I don't see meanings, I see other things.
