It hurts. It hurts bad. For me it was being fired at two positions; the first I didn't work out because they wanted cheap and experienced (I didn't have the experience at the time) and the second was a startup which was going places. One of the co-founders decided he didn't like me, and after two weeks of work I was fired.
Each time you feel useless and you wonder what exactly you're going to do. But I'll tell you this; if you've got the mettle to meet the world (and Boobs, I know you do) another job is around the corner- especially right now.
StrangePaladin's Advice While Looking For Work:
- Apply for unemployment IMMEDIATELY. I don't like it, but I'm of the philosophy that you've paid into it and you should get your benefits. Depending on your state, you'll need to requisition benefits each week. This leads into...
- Keep a day-by-day job log. Write down every recruiter you talk to (their number and company name), every job you submit for (requisition code, company, position title), and each time you get an offer or are passed over. This will help to make sure that you don't double submit or miss any opportunities.
- Start keeping a routine. Go out for a morning run/bike ride, keep up your exercise. Set aside blocks of time to look for work/call recruiters/etc and try to keep to them. This way time won't slip away so quickly.
- Start a small project. This will help you with the extra time you have on hand. It might be something with your house, it might be learning a new code skill, but you need something to keep you occupied.
You've got this one man. We're behind you on this one. I'll be a reference for you if you like XD
Thank you for the vote of confidence, might take you up on that reference thing.
I’m sure I’ve got this and I have already applied for unemployment as distasteful as it is. I’ll have a new job in a few weeks most likely people around here are desperate for IT guys, might even start another MSP but we’ll see what happens.
