Can someone tell me how to do this please. A friend has this old laptop and wants to install a new windows 97 to play doom. The laptop has no floppy drive only a cd player. we formatted the c drive in dos. The windows cd we burned does not boot do we need to make a startup cd or something ? thanks.

You'd be better off installing Windows 2000. It's more stable. You will probably need some drivers. FWIT, Doom installs and plays fine on Windows 10. Just right click on the setup file, and in the Compatability tab choose Windows 95 or 98/me and Run as administrator, and then install it.
