Floors. It's so easy, never fancied paying 100%+ the cost of the flooring to have someone put it in. Just finished an entire house in wood. Put in trim work/replaced baseboards, shoemolding, did some wainscoting. I haven't gotten there yet, but plan to do those ceiling tiles in my kitchen, it's going to be purrrrty :). Obviously I do my own paint, too. I don't mind painting at all as long as I have a podcast or something going.
I needed a goat stand for milking as well as hoof trimming, medicating, clipping, etc. Built that shit in a couple hours out of scraps vs paying $200 ish for one. Would've taken less time if I had just bought the wood instead of scrounging from the leftovers, but what can I say, I'm a cheapass.
Yard work. Only time I've ever paid for it was after we'd moved and sold the house, and the agent wanted us to cut the yard "one more time" for the new owners. Our old place everyone had a yard guy, except us. Amusingly, our grass usually looked better than everyone else's. I have this tool that yanks up weeds and leaves the grass, works great. Don't need to do that anymore now though, our livestock eats them.
Light fixture replacements/swapping out fans. Countertops, made them out of wood and sealed with epoxy. Fencing. Installation of new appliances.
We pretty much do everything ourselves. We did pay for the roof to be done because the grade is so steep. Paid to have HVAC put in.
I medicate my own goats and chickens. Have a microscope to run fecals. I have several antibiotics, painkillers, etc on hand. Try to go natural when I can, as my goat just had mastitis and we got through it with some natural oils instead of doing a round of antibiotics, then being out of milk for two weeks or so.
I wish I knew how to do the car stuff. I didn't grow up with my dad so I never learned. Husband just retired so he's home now, but in the past he has been assigned away from home and only home on the weekends, so I always took the vehicles in for all maintenance. I read and watched some videos on the basic things like what you referenced, and almost ordered the stuff to do it. One day :).
I did my whole house in tongue and groove style boards, upstairs and downstairs on separate occasions. Not sure I'd bother w/ doing the traditional way. Carpet is generally cheaper but I hate that shit. I'd rather steam than suck.
