You have to engage in PVP battles, earning points and epic drops from looting other users who you have killed.

You only really need the points if you're planning on upgrading your armor and stats. Also downvoting.

Points help sort posts and comment threads from top to bottom, hopefully so that the best and most relevant content and comments are at the top. Earning enough points will also make you able to see voting details of posts (for downvotes only).

I'm pretty sure once you get enough points you get to see some things or something, if that means anything to you.

Other than that, I'm pretty sure the number are random and the points don't matter.
