A year ago I went to Jordan and Egypt with my father and I couldn't wait to come back to America to kiss the ground. I had a new appreciation for my country after getting back to my father's driveway.

For some reason he forgot how ridiculous the trip was and recommended my uncle goes on it.

My uncle was asking about the Anti-Diarrhea medicine we had. The tour guide gave me something in Jordan because that's where I got sick but I can't for the life of me remember what I took. I have no pictures of the bottle or any information about the type of drug. I know it wasn't Imodium.

I also was a little sick in Egypt but I was able to get medicine there which helped out tremendously. Any lads or lasses who've traveled Jordan or Egypt can you recommend what type of anti-diarrhea/ antibacterial pills or suspension that I could recommend to my uncle to at least research about and ask the tour guide when they have their pre-trip phone call?

I know ivermectin usually helps. You can take it for weeks with no bad effects. At this point, I don't know if you could pay me enough to get me to go to Egypt. I knew a guy who almost died there from some fucked up parasite he got there.

Yeah I wouldn't set foot there again unless it was a invasion army with our own food.

I would heartily recommend Jarrow pro biotics. Twice a day I survived India on them, amd swear by them ever since (even is the day after pill for queasy stomach after questionable Mexican food).

Dude, you're brave going to that literal shithole.

It was fun, enjoyed it. Total free form trip with no predetermined anything. It’s true they don’t understand fecal -oral contamination, but they are immune…

Only thing that got me was a literally raw tandoori chicken. Not even warm inside. Ina place without refrigeration. Made by vegetarians. Who have never eaten chicken. Still. One day of pro biotics and a rest day and I was fine.

Laughter is the best medicine.

Why does your name look different?

Ignore that Theo, for he is a false-poet.

While I agree I don't think the bacteria are trying to eat through my intestinal wall would share your sentiments. My uncle does not suffer laughter all that well. Nor does he enjoy the company of fools. So I don't want to lead him astray but just give him suggestions as a starting point.

Fair points.

In all seriousness, it is worth remembering that diarrhea is a immune response designed to flush bacteria/protozoans from the colon; as long as you uncle has access to enough fluids and electrolytes to avoid the risk of dehydration, it might be worth it to bare it out, as combating the diarrhea too stringently might prolong the illness.

That being said, he needs to hydrate, more than he might naturally want to, while he is combating the intestinal demons. Older people especially are not good at telling when they are dehydrated.

Here in Russia we have an incredibly potent one - Chloramphenicol, which is sold as Levomycetin. It's effectively poison, it'll nuke everything in your gut and it is the last measure you can possibly use, and it works every time. A few years back I came down with very strong diarrhea after coming home from my friend's (coincidence?), I suffered its consequences for about a week - everything I ate just turned into liquid jet of water that kept me on the bowl for hours, and of course there was a matter of getting severely dehydrated. Well I thought enough is enough, popped half a pill of Levomycetin and it worked like a charm.

I don't know what meds they use, but do a course of ivermectin. People who prepared your food wipe their ass with hands and probably don't wash them either.

Stay away from third world shitholes.

I fully agree with you. I will never go anywhere on the planet that you can't drink the water. I learned that the hard way. I'm officially done with spray shitting the bed I'm sleeping in. But my uncle wanted to go to Egypt. I think it's a mistake but he's a grown boy.

The initial diarrhea can be just a sign of start of parasite infection. Just because it stopped, doesn't mean they are gone. Better safe than sorry.

I was fucked up for about 10 days.

Immodium.

Always keep some with you when you travel.

I agree. But I also feel that he needs to pass the poop as well. Get those camel fucker shit hands out of his system as fast as possible. 🐪💨💩

If you're in USA go to the store and get Imodium (aka Loperamide HCI) instructions are at the first loose shit, take2 tablets, and then at the next loose shit after that you take one tablet, not to exceed 4 tablets in 24 hrs. I take these tablets just in case for myself when I travel, and offer them to traveling companions so they won't ruin my plans. It worked for me to take 1 tablet at the first loose shit and by the second loose shit it seemed to resolve with these tablets.
