Like if we can make a sport out of playing doom or madden fast why can we turn using firefox from boot into a sport.

Human tasks, TAS (how fast a program gets a job done), programming tasks, launch some application from boot. I think this could be just as interesting. Half of speed running is documenting glitches. It's not like tuning a boot process is more nerdy than what they are doing anyway.

That may not be a consumer level thing but considering the fact that ALL of the worlds fastest supercomputers run Linux, I would say that it is a thing at the industrial scale. Not racing to run Firefox obviously but racing to run multi-process optimized code.
