Is family really so unimportant to the modern European that they can't be bothered to take off work to be with family on Thanksgiving?

I'm sure there's uniquely European holidays that Americans don't celebrate. Would the same apply to us since we don't celebrate their holiday?

The German "Erntedankfest" (Harvest Festival) is still traditionally observed on the first Sunday of October. To the best of my knowledge, it has never been as huge as the US Thanksgiving, but it exists.

In Germany, Thanksgiving was celebrated on Sunday, October 5, 2025. It is not a public holiday, but is celebrated in many communities with church services and festivities. Traditional parades and events also take place in individual locations, such as the Thanksgiving celebration in Kirchwerder.
