Looking for an iron for heavier jobs. This one is about €160 with the 65W FX-8801 iron and the genuine tips are €10-ish. Looks like you can only get the 95W Fx-8806 iron separately, so another ~€120.

Got an FX-888D but I'm not happy with it, might even be a fake. I'm also liking the improved "UI" on the DX. I'm currently using Ersa and Weller but those are both not in this power class. The old Hakko is gathering dust.

At work we still use the trusty Weller WTCP Magnastat stations with the magnetic tip temp regulation and those are great for heavy soldering despite only being rated at 50W, they can dump a lot of heat into a joint quickly.

These days, I'm looking for something I can set the temp directly, it's the year 2000 after all.

Depends on how much soldering you do. I have a $20 el cheapo for the occasional job.
