When I was in high school we hosted a few diffrent exchange students with this organization https://www.yfuusa.org/.

Mostly it was fun and a good experience. We hosted a boy from chili and he did not click with our family so he ended up switching families and getting along with them well. He was just quiet and our house was not.
We also hosted Two boys and a girl from Germany, one girl from Finland, and a girl from Japan. Those all went really Well.

It's something that might be fun to do again but I think if we do it we will wait till our kids are older.

I facilitated a German students work experience and thesis practical. Our age difference had him dragging me to music festivals and me dragging him outdoors with my kid. He didn't drink, I drink. Our politics were polar but we got along well. Its a myth that Germans have no sense of humor. I'm still in contact with him and enjoy sending him Hitler memes.
