Debian.
My favorite is Slackware, but I've been trying to relearn guitar for a couple years and I can't get Audacity to work and seventh string transcribe won't play videos, so then I use Linux Mint.
Mint Cinnamon in a VM for dev stuff.
I use it on a desktop computer. Edit: Sorry didn't read the whole question, my high school math teacher would be having a heart attack right now. Ubuntu.
Used Debian for years after hopping around in the first 6 months or so. Two lappy's now one Debian and one Linux Mint. Will be putting Debian on the latter when I get around to it.
Openbox always.
Linux Mint 18.3
Made the switch when Win10 that came with laptop started forcing updates. So glad I made the switch.
So far the only thing have not bee able to do / find workaround for was cheap Chinese IP camera interface which needs IE/activex control that will not run on Linux. Probably would run on a VM, but too lazy to fuck with it. Just used old laptop.
