If you use direct image links, ending with one of the supported image extensions (jpeg, jpg, png, gif), it will automatically save it and create a Poal link.
You can use https://pasteboard.coand paste the direct image link in the create post page's url field.

That's because the link is a fake direct image one. It actually leads to an html page.
You must right click (long tap on mobile) on the image and copy the link:
