The patent office will gobble almost anything since THEY are not the one that will defend the patent, you are
so, it boils down to "defend your patent", meaning, how much money can you afford for litigation ?
Come up with a throw away idea to run by the lawyer, feel them out before actually telling the real deal.
I have several but all done through companies.
I have quite a few, cost around 20K ea. Need drawings, schematic, prototype ( if applicable), description. You need to research patents to make sure no one else has it.
I figured the research would be required, but damn that charge. Seriously, 20k?
Most patent lawyers charge about that in my experiance. It's possible you can do it without, but I never had time to investigate and the packages I've recieved I thought, I'm glad I paid, no way I could figure that out , not in my skill set.
Btw I had patents stolen from me when I discussed the idea with a lawyer but never filed. There is a reason why consultation is free - you say too much and don't hire him, he is free to take his "original" idea and run with it.
no, but I know someone who's almost patented a lot of things only to see others get rich off the ideas later. if you're able to get a patent done, can afford to pay the fees or whatever there is, do it.
