I'm not from the USA either, but this wannabe smug-superiority that people from other countries sometimes try to put on is just offensive to me in the abstract. It reads as the most petty of jealousies - an open admission that the regional or global hegemon has rendered your laughable cartographic doodle of a nation utterly irrelevant, and that your collective arses are mad chapped over it.
And sure, in our heart of hearts, we all want that hegemon to fly our flag - we all want it to be our nation at the top of the heap, dictating terms and holding all those fools out there to our standards, as would be good and proper - but history doesn't work that way, times create men, and nobody can sit at the top of the leaderboard forever.
