We had an emergency at our house and had to file a claim with our homeowners insurance. We've never had to deal with this before or working with the insurance adjustors. We're not trying to take advantage of anyone but also trying not to be taken advantage of. They are inventorying all the items in the house a lot of which is considered "total loss". I just don't know how the budget works. There are multiple cleaning/ repair companies involved all of which need to be paid. They are sending us an allowance to buy clothes and food with but no one seems to be able to say just how much we are entitled to or just how much we can spend/replace yet. Does anyone know how this works? Looking at my policy I see different "limits of liability" $ amounts for "dwelling, personal property, etc" but I'm guessing we're only entitled to exactly what needs to be replaced? If anyone can shed any light that would be very helpful. Thanks
