There's /s/TheBible but there are a lot of happy merchants in there.
Are you thinking scheduled discussions or something more like a forum? I'm admittedly no theologian, but maybe I should be.
Not sure how a scheduled discussion would go, given the broad time constraints from all that might be involved. My thought was write ups of Bible passages or topics that people could discuss. Perhaps even lectures on why certain things we believe are what they are. For example the Trinity, or the ease of salvation, or the concept of human works playing into said salvation, etc.
There seems to be a lot of misinformation or crossed wires, no doubt from the shit people are fed from mainstream churches who can't even decide what gender their pastors and bishops should be. I'm ok no position to be a flock leader, but I would like to give biblical clarity to those here who might be trying to find Jesus, but Satan has made the route too muddy to clearly follow.
Not sure how a scheduled discussion would go
I guess what came to mind is something like; each week, the topic of discussion for the next week is announced. Anyone interested in participating can use the space of the week to study. The discussion starts on a specific day rather than a specific time.
I could see myself participating in something like that.
What do you think some common misconceptions are?
I like that idea better than what I'd planned. I have to run a poll or two when I open the sub but that is a good idea
Misconceptions can be sticky, given the denomination game we have around here. For example, KJV only vs other Bibles, what's involved in salvation rather than worship. Child baptism. Works vs grace. I plan to lead off with a simple article that we can sticky in thelobby about why we believe what we do and what evidence we have that proves it, outside of just "The Bible says so"
I like the idea of a scheduled discussion. It would help me stay on course as I am admittedly inconsistent with my own reading and study.
With everyone's schedule obviously we aren't looking at anything approaching real time, but we could have a "discussion topic of the week" where everyone is contributed to do a little study and contribution on one topic in one thread each week. Obviously other threads of course welcome, but like one post that is the highlight that everyone really takes time on. Sort of "book club" style.
That's a really good idea, actually. Sticky the post for the week, maybe AOU could link it to the lobby to trigger the yids.
I'll work on getting it started this weekend.
