My background is in the sciences, and my former boss has ducked me over to the point I'm basically unhireable in my actual field.

I did something on my own time, and she's used it as leverage to get HR down my neck until I resigned, then found a new job and retaliate against me at my new (got fired today) job.

Fuck science, fuck doing the right thing, why not start a career with RotoRooter?

Plumbing would be a good, solid, paying job. However with a "science" background, welding may be a more suitable, challenging and lucrative career path. In either case, some retraining will be in order. Sniff around a bit and see what piques your interest. Good luck!

Thanks, I have a feeling I'll need it. It's disheartening to have an MS and skill set that's functionally useless now. It was a very niche field.

I'll start applying tomorrow for other jobs in the same field but everyone knows everyone unfortunately. My 6 month old is gonna be sad that dads not gonna be around for lunch anymore.

If you go for plumbing, go for "new build commercial installation". No dealing with shit.

The trades are always hiring and plumbing is top pay because In the last 20 years No One wants to Work and the work force is getting old.

No matter how hot a woman is, some man, somewhere, is sick of her shit. Go find that guy and work for him.

Now, I'm not gonna explain this analogy to you so if you respond with "She's not hot" or "She's fat and ugly" or any other stupidity I am gonna just assume that you lost your job for good reason and you're not smart enough to be a plumber anyway so you should go apply at Mickey D's.

If you get it you won't need to be a plumber.

I dont believe 'the sciences' is a field so small as to allow one boss the ability to blacklist you from all jobs in that field.

Go through an apprenticeship, if you can. Plumbing has been good to me, I’ve been at it for almost 20 years now. Finally got my contractor’s license a few years back and now I have my own business, pulling in $150k/year.

EDIT: If you go through the union, you can turn out as a plumber, pipe fitter, or even a welder (if you get your certs.)

Be prepared to travel if you’re a welder or fitter.
