I had a shitbag boss like that. The bastard would schedule a meeting at 4:30PM and rant on about nothing until 6. Two workers had kids in daycare and he'd do the "oh sorry...I forgot". I have kept track of him (and one other) prior manager to make sure I don't accidently end up where they are on a contract. If I ever hit the lottery I'll dox both of the fucks.
I don't mind if he wants to chat outside of work but when he tries to guilt trip us for leaving when we need to - that makes him an absolute asshole. And when he's talking you can't really get a word in edgewise.
The ones that talk non stop and never come up for air are the dumbest people. Smart people communicate with fewer words.
I will speak directly to the answer but otherwise I often stay quiet and my colleagues do a lot of communication for me, they do defend my actions against the boss... It's good to know they think that highly of me to do so though I see that as wearing out my good will with them and I don't like it - but it's also wearing out their good will with the boss too.
I think there was something about Jocko and letting your colleagues speak their mind to explain points you carry not only makes your colleague look smart but also you too.
