Ordered a portable air conditioner from Home Depot today. My office is in a room that is absolutely baking because the wide area of windows that face the sun at the front of the house. It's totally disconnected (figuratively) from the back half of the house where the HVAC thermostat is. Thermal curtains and potted bushes on the porch in front of the windows only help a bit. It's a wave of heat hitting me as I'm at my desk.

Anyway, I did ship-to-store which is estimated 10 days from now. Even media mail, which I use to flip records on eBay, usually arrives across the country in like 5 days.

Their estimate is probably accurate because I already waited this long for my pressure washer to arrive. How?

Bulk shipping to different areas. They are doing this to save money and pretend they are concerned about climate change.

A legit reply from the man himself. Thank you.

It's probably riding on a truck of other cargo that only comes to your store every few weeks, or is being dropped shipped by the vendor.

Keeps the costs down I suppose. Lame.

Can you cancel the order? Portable air conditioners are horrifically inefficient, they are kinda of intrinsically shit, due to the laws of thermodynamics. I would highly recommend you just go for a window unit, it will work much better.

A little poem for the king of them.

They're better if you can get a dual-vent design that uses external air in a closed loop for the hot side, but they're a lot (((rarer))).

I understand that but I don't want to look like a nigger with the butt of a window unit hanging out the front porch of the house. It's mostly about the drips.

I had a portable a/c in an office room I had in a warehouse. It worked fine. That's not to say you're wrong. You're right. Less efficient. I know my bro.

10 days seems like a lot when I can get free 2 day shipping from Korea.

It's probably due to the size and/or weight, plus the delicate nature of the compressor. Since it needs to be handled carefully they can't leave it to the diversity hires to just yeet it into the back of a truck. Additionally, most shipping services have had major issues with profitability so none of them want to carry something that could be replaced with a dozen orders with the same shipping cost.

Get you a piece of foam, perhaps with one side shiny like aluminum foil. Fashion it to the exact size of your window. Place it in your window shiny side out, maybe Scotch tape to keep it in place. The reflecting light may cause traffic accidents and piss off your neighbor but it will make your house significantly cooler.

Lived with a bunch or red necks in AZ and that's how they handled the heat. Wasn't pretty and pretty dark inside, but maybe you could cut out a little window in the foam for light that can be placed back.
