If have the wherewithal you can probably pry it open and replace the battery. The older ones were pretty easy to repair.
My old kindle is still working "fine", the battery isn't what it once was but really hasn't been an issue yet. I do all my web browsing at home. I can unplug it and take it with me around the house and the battery lasts a couple hours or more before I need to plug in again. It's one of those 2 for $100 Amazon Kindle Fire Christmas deals from Xmas 2017. I was a desktop/laptop guy until I was given the kindle. I've hardly touched the desktop/laptop since. I need to upgrade the whole mess one of these days. Not into chromebooks, want all of my data local on my hard drives, not in the cloud. Anyway, maybe I'll upgrade my kindle in the next Amazon Kindle Christmas deal ... they are so cheap it's probably as cheap or cheaper than buying a new battery.

Might be close depending on the battery, but you gotta square it with the risk of you cracking the screen or casing when doing the repair. So yeah better off just waiting to buy a new one.
I got pissed off that every single time I put the thing online it's force me to update the software which made it slower and slower. I swapped over to a Kobo. Not sure it's any better but the UI sure is.
You know about libgen and calibre right?

I had to look them up. I'm actually not into ebooks. I do read books, but infrequently. Most of my daily reading is news junky related. I use the kindle mostly for web browsing and texting.
Agree on cracked screens and cases, not worth the money vs buying a new kindle or other pad.
