why is that not pointless, in the grand scheme of things? Are not their lifes pointless also?
Living a good life isnt pointless. I affect others and through the affect i have on others. My life has mattered. I have made other lives. I have made others lives better, I have made others lives worse. I have taken others lives.
I know which of those I prefer to do. I know that my impact, by making others lives better, has a point. To make the world a a better place than i found it.
You have to stop thinking on the whole large everything is jewed and fucked mentality, cause sure, we have to do more work there than we are willing to do at this point, and if you only think about those things... I can maybe see your side of the equation.
I let those issues go. Take for example the volunteer work i do for one of my local legion posts. Do i believe the entire US government system that my legion post supports, is jewed up? Yes indeed. I volunteer my help, not for the government support we give, not for the 50c i get off drinks, not for the "American Legion" itself. I do it for the community that exists there.
Those people appreciate it, cant do it for themselves, the "legion" wont come to the rescue. We have a group of vets, who go there, that are taking care of the place. Much of the customer base they have there is nam vets that still come in often. They get driven to the place by their family or uber, and taken home the same way. Hell the place keeps a walker, wheelchair, and cane on hand in case on gets broke in as visit... I love those old guys, some days they are too much. They needed a few younger vets to help mentally and spiritually rejuvenate some of them and modernize the place they spend all their time.
Costs me only some of my spare time. Where I hang out and volunteer with friends... Spending time with those I enjoy spending time with, while helping other people. Hell, that my friend, after procreation, is the meaning of life. Enjoying your time with those you care for...
What Im saying is their life is pointless also, sure its nice to be kind
I get what you are saying.
I was using jewed up things as a common reference point in the example.
I tend to let that kind thinking glance off me. I have no no idea if death will be the end. I have no frame of reference from reliable sources, providing similar data without prompting on what they were supposed to see...
It is one of those impossibilities to know what comes after life and still be here to tell another person.
This is the thinking that led to religion. Everyone wants something to believe in for after they die. Since there can be know way of really knowing. We all question.
Its a matter of perspective.
Hypothetical...
Lets say, you created something that leaves a legacy that opens up the universe for others. Say warp drive, like in star trek. You would still your life see as pointless?
I would see the amazing thing I'd have done and would have been happy to have done it. I opened a universe for others to explore... I created. I gave others a better life.
Again, its perspective.
I choose to put the point of my life, here into my real life physical existence in the time i have. Not some unknown end that I can never know.
