Passover as a remembrance of God's death angel "passing over" the slaves and killing the firstborn of the globohomo Egyptians is a very old school reminder that God is about opportunities AND consequences. A far cry from modern cafeteria "christianity" that's all feels and forgiveness for fooling around and never any finding out.
