A farmer produces a harvest and then sticks it in the granary. I would assume that he knows how much he put in there, but then what, is there a broker that manages the sale of it afterwards? Are all the grains the same? What if farmer A has better grain than farmer B and then they're all mixed in there. What happens then? I'm in Illinois currently in and I'm in a town that has a bunch of granaries and it got me thinking about how it all works.

How do they keep it from getting moldy? Are there fans or something inside to churn that stuff?

Actually, yes. Many have large blower fans that will blow fresh air in through diffusers in the bottom to help control moisture. Many even have auger systems that pull grain from the bottom and scatter it around the top thus circulating the grain to aid in drying. (shivvers.com)

I wonder how they fight off rodents and other pests. I'm up in Wisconsin now, i would love to find a place with some granaries. I would just ask see what they say, that is if there's any anyone to talk to
