In the non-magical way. If you put yourself in more positive situations than negative ones, you're likely to net positive, particularly in civilized society where mutual benefit is recognized and rewarded. If I'm seen as a person who does good things for other people, other people are more likely to do good things for me, and vice versa. While I don't think there's a 1:1 karma ratio, people who lead shitty lives usually end up with shitty lives and that's what I think of as karma.
I also think behaving well, being courteous and respectful, honest, leading by example, all pay dividends. Hopefully others see that and start doing it too, eventually maybe I benefit.
Maybe not, sometimes karma isn't real.
