Likely. The one that cracked me up (don't know if it's been re done) was Altered Carbon. The narrator was a dude with a nice voice but the mp3 I had was such a low bit rate it gave his female voices a lisp. I could help but crack up during sex scenes. It's against the rules for Amazon to re do a book but I know a lot of publishers have so the really old stuff that I used to rent from the library on tape or cd have been modernized and I can't listen. There was a lot of stuff narrated by a serial killer for the library for the blind.
The guy who narrates the PKD books on Audible makes every woman sound very Jewish, which, to be fair, PKD had a lot of Jewish characters in his audiobooks. It doesn't sound bad, but holy fuck, the guy does a jewish woman voice pretty well.
I can't do any accent other than southern even though I lived in NJ and had a decent jersey accent for a while because I start to do that ny jew accent pretty quickly. It's even worse now. My accents suck because I can't remember what I was doing before. It's hard enough to figure out on the fly who is talking and what I did...adding accents in would just make me scream.
I did scream in the booth two days in a row. Freaking pajeet didn't get her book edited. I had done one for her before and it was weird but I could read it reasonably smoothly but this one. Omfg. Wrong words, wrong tenses, I have no idea why the man is sobbing throughout the book. Nonsense. I will be declining any more offers from her.
