Does anybody have any tips on clearing a clog in a bathroom sink vent/overflow holes? Just for clarity, I'm talking about the holes closest to you when washing your hands.

I got drain cleaning tools and shoved them in the hole...but it wasn't super effective. I was able to clear the main drain, so that's a plus.

Poop goes in toilet, hands goes in sink. Not the other way around.

That's what we're doing wrong?

drain weasel, not great for drains, but excellent for those vent holes: https://www.drainweasel.com

clog removal bottle to dissolve hair and other materials.

But make sure your water pipes are made of PVC, or they might get melted too.

I'll try this after the peroxide suggestion.

Just blow compressed air thru it

Such a nigger answer...lol

I usually use my mouth, but compressed air will work, too. Yeah I’m a dirty plumber. Just make sure the stopper is down when you blow air through it or things might get messy…

Do you know what's clogging it? I can't imagine I would be hair up there.

I know for sure whiskers are in it, as I was shaving when it filled to that point and is when I noticed it wasn't draining. Other than that, no idea.

Like others have said - one of those plastic hair removal things since it does seem to be hair. Drain cleaner should work too, just make sure the overflow part isn't metal. My apartment complex maintenance are useless and when my sink rusted out (they put caulk around it and painted over the rust and holes with wall paint), I just replaced it myself. It was easy and cheap, so if you get desperate enough that is an option.

It drains into the sink below the drain. A clog there could do it. Try one of those pronged drain rippers in the drain.

If that didn't work I would try compressed air or just pull the sink and check it out.

There was whiskers and hair from someone cutting theirs and trying to be lazy when cleaning the sink, but not enough to cause a clog. There was a lot of tannish brown gunk that I have no idea what it used to be. Toothpaste, hopefully...

Do you own any of those reusable silicone shampoo containers for traveling? A turkey baster bulb might work too.

I've found the best way to clear my sink overflow drain is to put peroxide in there. Then I remove the cap from the travel container and place it over the hole. Squeeze it like a baster to apply air pressure and it should clear the clog down in the drain. Once you've gotten it unclogged, squirt peroxide down there when you clean the sink. It's cheap and destroys biofilms well.

When you unclogged the sink, did you remove the stopper in the drain pipe under your sink?

This is cheap enough I'm going to try it tonight.

As long as you get a good seal around the bulb and the sink, I've found it easy to push the gunk out.

This worked very well! I'm pleased with the results. The peroxide loosened everything up enough that I was able to scrape it out with the tools that I got for this task...ordeal? Certainly not a project.

It was kind of ominous hearing it bubble away though. Thought something was going to crawl out and be pissed off that I wrecked its home.

They have these rubber snake things for digging womens hair out of the shower drain. a couple feet long with little teeth on it. Should do the trick, they are real flexible.

Put this in amazon to see what I'm talking about:

6 Pack 25 Inch Drain Clog Remover Tool, Drain Hari Cleaner Tool, Hair Cather Shower Drain Tool, Drain Auger Hair Cleaning Tool for Shower Kitchen Sink Bath Tub Bathroom, Sink Snake Hair Remover

I got some, it only poked a hole which I think filled up after removing the tool.

Lateral line cleaner is a safe chemical (for the drains, definitely not you). Buy it at home Depot and fill the drain. If the drain is backed up, that's fine, fill it till the drain is full. Follow directions on bottle. It will dissolve anything in the drain that is from your body or food, like hair, fingernail clippings, meat, veggies, grease. It won't dissolve things like metal or bone.

It was a fatberg in the sink vent. Not sure how it got there, that drain has always been slow since we moved in. I think I have it figured out now.
