A lot of the ones around here are bussed in for the day. You don't wear nice clothes and have clean shoes living in the street.

The one's here drive to their corner. I've seen them get back in their cars at the end of the day to go home. Probably making more money than me and not paying taxes on it.

There's one that stands out at the corner of an exit ramp and I-70 literally in a cornfield, but leaves a lawn chair there overturned so it looks like garbage. I think I'm going to stop Monday morning and pick up some trash.

Yeah there's this guy here. Always shows up early, makes a custom sign with a joke on it or "smile!" or something, wears the right colors on a game day, brings his cute dog, whatever. He's physically able and working age and treats it like a job. It is his job. Why doesn't he get a real job? Well, probably wouldn't make as much money. So an individual who could otherwise be productive instead spends his day slowing down traffic off the exit ramp. And then he gets in his car at the end of the day and goes home. I blame him a little bit but really the people handing money out the window are the problem. If he weren't there it'd be someone else.

That's not how you get more panhandlers. That's how you get stronger panhandlers.
You see, there are only so many good highway offramps and busy corners per city. But you really only see one guy at any given spot at a time. There is unseen competition among the panhandlers for these money spots. I can only assume it comes down to physical violence when nobody is willing to back down. The scarcity of resources drives survival of the fittest. The weak have to go sleep all day next to a red box or OD or whatever.

In the past my mother would give to the homeless on the way to church, where we were told by Jesus to give to the poor.
Nowadays, that one homeless man is gone, he went on to panhandle somewhere else. There are about 20 panhandlers now, I guess competition was too much.

Drives me fucking nuts when they give these bums money. If you really want to be charitable give them water on a hot day or a coffee on a cold day , and tell them they are capable of doing more than begging.

You can shoot right through the door of a car. I always have a pistol at the ready down low when a bum starts walking toward my vehicle. Even the brazen ones have no idea.

I don't. If I can't avoid them I try to beat them to the punch and ask them for 16 cents. When they say no I immediately follow with, got a cigarette? And usually they move along because they only want to take. They wouldn't help me.

We get panhandlers in Tucson because it's warm. Handouts from passerby cars is not the reason...sure it helps that these addicts can make 60 bucks or more in a couple of hours to pay for their next meth/Fent hit and some food, but that is a bonus to them...not the reason they are here. Bums freeze to death in Chicago...they don't in warm areas...pretty simple...Also, many of them are not addicts and have found themselves in a situation they never could forsee.
