A lot of internet people say HDDSuperClone is superior to ddrescue and the Pro version is Freeware now. Don't know much about UFS Explorer except that it is expensive. The archive link has a Live CD download that has the Pro version of the tools pre installed.

Years ago I tried to startup an old computer that I hadn't used in years. Just for fun and to see if there was anything worth retrieving off of it. It wouldn't boot up. So I booted it up using Linux on a USB drive. I was able to see everything on the hard drive.

This might not be what you're looking for. But I just figured commenting this might help someone out someday.
