Plus it captures device fingerprints (literally how it determines "if it's you"). Since there is a "call home" in element, it's trivial for them to collect device fingerprint data. If you use your device on literally any open-air service (eg. 99.9% of apps on your phone) then you've exposed your identity. They can tie your activity back to your element chat history and everything else you do on your device. Not just your phone, of course, because if you've "Linked" your element to your desktop or any other device, they now know that's tied to you as well.

The key is to stop giving them information. The less you give out, the better.
