Receive text from work: We will be opening at noon due to inclement weather.

Reverse process to go back home. Got here 15 minutes ago, have to leave soon if I want to get to work ontime.

I think I will call out because of their bullshit.

Thoughts?

Edit: I decided to go back into work, got on the train, and immediately recieved the text that WORK HAS BEEN CANCELED.

BUT IVE WASTED 4 HOURS OF MY LIFE GETTING THERE

Next time go in at your usual starting time then apply for overtime.

Bus, train, city... nope nope nope

Put your pants on and go to work faggot

I did, and as I was arriving, work got canceled

Lol, they cancelled work here last night for this morning, and we didn't get anything that accumulated. Paid day off for me

I had a boss text me on the way to work like that. Two days in a row. I ghosted him and never went back.

I would have worked on errands that have to be done in the area in order to not waste so much time in transit back and forth.

I usually write poetry on the train ride, but the bus/subway are not long enough to get settled and do anything.

That sounds nice (train/writing). Sorry you weren't able to enjoy that today.

I wouldn't have made it to the bus...lol

Can you do your work at home?

[–] 1 pt

Well, I am allowed to take my laptop home and we are incouraged to do so in case of inclimate weather, but...

I live in a sober house and last week my roommates gun got stolen by another roommate. They're both out of the house but I don't feel like risking it. Hopefully I'm out of that situation this week.

I see how that's a pain in the ass but you're already up and moving and your work day will be shorter. I say save the call-in and go make that money.

But I would have to leave now. Spending four hours of my day on public transportation, not including getting me home, is kind of bullshit. It is also bullshit that I got the text half an hour before work started. And I have a ton of bullshit to do.

[–] 2 pts (edited )

Thirty minute notice is absolutely bullshit. I would be livid. They had enough information to make a decision well before then. Even people without too long of a commute or need for public transport etc have left by then.

I assume you have made your decision one way or another by now, but if it was me I would call out and let them know I was specifically doing so because their laziness and/or incompetency left me no choice and if in the future they would like employees to show up for half days on weather days bother to make a decision in some sort of responsible timeline.

I'm going in, but I'm going to let my displeasure be known

OmFG! Just got on the train for round two and recieve the text that work has been CANCELED!!!

MY MORNING HAS BEEN KIDNAPPED AND THE KIDNAPPERS ACCIDENTALLY SHOT AND KILLED IT AND GAVE ME BACK ITS LIFELESS CORPSE!

You know your situation better than anyone else. Make your best move. Good luck!

I went with your advice and went back in. As the train was departing the station, I received a text saying that work has been canceled 🙃 🙂 🙃

Eff all that, yeah, stay home, take the day. You have Covid or something.

I know that bosses have a rough time calling an end/cancel work. You are depriving people of livelihood because, they don't work for free, and they need their income. "Work will be their for them tomorrow." Yes, and needing to catchup is bad for your clients too. So they weigh the decision and at the very last moment make the call.

No. They are not considering that people also have to make time to travel to work.

If work gets called I still get paid, so I can't complain about that. I just didn't want so much time to be wasted
