The Azov Battalion, et al, are an overtly national socialist para-military group which was folded into the Ukrainian military after the war kicked into high gear. Keep in mind that *National* Socialism isn't a uniquely German political ideology - they're just the most well known variant. Historically, the raison d'etre for National Socialism was to be a nation-based socialist ideology rather than the (at the time) prominent movements for "international socialism". "International socialism" was later rebranded as "communism", after which the *national* socialism prefix became confusing. As for why there are Ukrainian national socialists, consider what Ukraine is: a socialist country. The government explicitly controls or at least dictates the ownership of most of the economy. Its government has conscripted almost all fighting age males. Its political goals are the advancement of the *national* interests of its socialist government. Not "spread socialism to the world", but within itself and any disputed territory that's nearby. You might ask yourself why the globohomos are backing a national socialist government given that national socialists traditionally opposed international socialism aka communism. It's because this time the national socialists under Zelensky are fighting Russia. Post-USSR, Russia swung back towards its oligarchical, conservative Orthodox Christian roots. You know what globohomos REALLY hate? Conservative Christians. Furthermore, Zelensky is providing *massive kickbacks* to globohomo politicians. So far as they're concerned, he's just another socialist fighting against Christianity. If his socialist goals are "only" local rather than global...they aren't going to complain because that serves their interests.
