Is anyone here from alaska? What are the pros and cons of living in the great state? While i do not expect to find many Poalrs there, from a tax point of view, it looks tempting. what are your thoughts? Is is crawling with far left loonies or simple folk who want to be left alone?

I have no idea but....doesn't stop me from having opinions on Poal! Have you taken a vacation in that state? Weather is bad except for maybe some sun days mixed with mostly rain days all summer. 4 inches of soil and the rest is rock, I hope you know how to build boxes to garden and how to protect what you grow in winter. Few gas stations I think, once a week grocery truck deliveries, no next day parcels, gotta wait longer. Take a woman with you.

My brother lives in Juneau. Makes great money in the Mines. If you don't hunt, fish or like being alone, stay away. He said he will never come back to the lower 48. That's all I got.

i do hear that there is good money to be made there... i like to hunt and fish, and i'll probably be taking some people with me. i spoke with a guy who lived there for 20 years and he said, nothing compares to alaska. tell me, how did your brother get a mining gig? can anyone do it, or do you have to know someone?

Best bet is to find the mining companies operating in the area you're interested in. I've figured the best way to move to a new place is to find the job first, then make the move.

yeah, that is what i am thinking as well.

He started out changing tires in a tire shop 10 years or so back. Kept trying to get on. Took a few classes to help his resume. GI bill. Proud of him.

i'm looking to get into the fishing industry myself, would also take a mining job if i could. like with anything else, you have to keep trying.

As much as I would like to move there, I don't think I could handle the dark winters. Even the winters in the mountains of Tennessee have been a struggle for me because of how often we get overcast and rain.

You're not going to see many niggers there. If the government decides to lock us down for any reason, you're going to be better off there. If food becomes a problem, there's plenty of wildlife.

Plus they have tons of addicted abbos, as bad as neegars

Ok, sure, Anchorage is just another city, but there's a lot of wilderness.

You never want to be in the larger cities of any state. So yeah.

Men outnumber women 10 to 1.

Cost of living is absurd.

Snows 10 months a year.

The other 2 months the largest mosquitos on earth have actually driven people to suicide.

damn

The fishing is fantastic

The scenery is epic

There's no niggers

Everyone carries a gun

Eagles are everywhere

There's an amazing independent film called Tailbound Alaska I'd recommend. If it comes to a film festival near you I recommend it.

Film maker: https://maxromeyproductions.com/

The film maker travels during the summer months and it does look quite amazing. But I get a feeling the movie is pretty deceptive in the sense he had to have filmed it in a really narrow window, probably around May or June.

Wendover productions does a good video on a town that's the more norther place in America:

It doesn't sound like you'd be that far out, but it still seems brutal. I'd suggest going to that city to visit for a few days and get to know people first. If you can survive it, maybe Alaska would be alright. I know I couldn't I spent several winters in Chicago and Ohio and both were way too much snow for me.

thanks for this. the area that i'm looking at seems to have the best climate there, but i dont have any illusions. the first thing people will tell you is how brutal the winters can be. with that being said, the people seem to be of a different lot than where i am. people up there tend to look out for each other more and they also seem to take their homes seriously. while i do not expect to travel back in time, i think that alaska offers much of what i am after. the cost of living will probably be what turns me away, but they also do not have many of the usual taxes so there is that.

If you do go make sure you have solid, long term employment set up before hand. It can be hard to get jobs there and they go to locals and natives first, period.

Had a buddy who after the service went to make a life up there. He had to quit and come back mainland after a year and half because he just couldn't get work. He had lived there for almost a decade as a kid, so he wasn't totally new. If he didn't have friends he already knew there which had to lean on, he wouldn't even have made it 6 months.

This is my dream but I am to poor and my life is crazy.. I wish I could purchase 100 acres.

Bring a jacket, long John's and a firearm with enough stopping power to put down a bear.
