2006 was the first time I recall thinking something along the lines of "that was a crazy/fucked up year". I can't remember why exactly I thought that, but whatever it was would certainly be overshadowed by the happenings of the last decade.
2007 was the Virginia tech shooting, which was probably the highest profile shooting since columbine.
The Obama and the housing crisis was 2008. Sandy hook happened at the end of 2014 and we've seen mass shootings repeatedly since then.. that was also the year target tried to let trannys in the women's bathroom if I recall correctly.
