I'm aware matrilineal descent matters to Conservative and Orthodox Jews, but why do people in our circles care? Israel's right of return goes by grandparents and most Jews in the Western media, entertainment, academia, and white-collar work are secular. I've never seen anyone less worried if there was a Jewish father and European mother, so why bring it up at all? It's not magic, it's just the best an ancient people lacking paternity tests could do.

Because they switch from being a race or religion depending on whichever is more advantageous.

They switch what Jewishness means, but no individual switches from being an atheist to being religious just to get one over on gentiles. A secular Jew definitely wouldn't pretend to be Orthodox since they look down on them (though it's harder to see given their constant anti-Christian panic attacks and need to put up a united front against Arabs).

Why are you introducing orthodox jews into this? Are you trying to muddy the conversation by doing so? There's three religious groups of jews: secular/atheist, jew and orthodox. All three share characteristics of the jewish phenotype, and therefore, genetically jewish.

Why are you introducing orthodox jews into this?

They were always part of my question. I mentioned them.

Are you trying to muddy the conversation by doing so?

The conversation I started? Maybe. My moods shift.

There's three religious groups of jews: secular/atheist, jew and orthodox.

Is a word missing?

All three share characteristics of the jewish phenotype, and therefore, genetically jewish.

So then you see my point it's weird for gentiles to act like having a Jewish mother is more significant than a Jewish father because it doesn't make much genetic difference.
