Cakes, cookies, drinks. What's your favorite thing to make or have made around the holidays?

Personally, I enjoy homemade gingerbread and molasses cookies, along with some homemade eggnog. No store bought, prepackaged garbage. Tastes 100 times better when you've put in the effort to make it yourself.

I figure we need something to cheer us up. It's Christmas time, everybody!

Gramma used to make date nut balls, just dates, nuts, crisp rice, and some stuff to hold it all together, coated with shredded coconut.

I need to get that recipe before everyone dies.

Sounds delicious. Don't see enough stuff made with dates anymore, not without a heaping ton of processed sugar in them at least.

I'll see if I can get the recipe, I know various family members have it. If I can remember, will post it.

Awesome. Gotta keep circulating the old recipes. I have this old cook book that my family had printed out and bound with recipes from some older ancestors and family friends.

I know it's stupid, but a good, home brewed, pumpkin spice latte with lots of whip cream

Pumpkin stuff is fine, it's the stupid "Pumpkin EVERYTHING!!!!" movement that's started in the last... what, decade and a half? THAT is dumb as fuck. But things like pumpkin pie, pumpkin soup, roasted pumpkin seeds... all that stuff is fine imo.

Besides, the primary spices in pumpkin pie to my knowledge are nutmeg and cloves. I enjoy those spices very much.

Bourbon balls.

. 😄 Bourbon balls for the win! 🥇

Not being disturbed. yeah I know.

[–] 1 pt

That's entirely fair. Some people just don't like making a big hullabaloo about it.

Cheese curds. No wait, those are a year-round delicacy. Oh well, I still enjoy them.

[–] 1 pt

Can honestly say I've never had cheese curds before, but I do love me some cheese.

[–] 1 pt

I’ve found cheese curds to be gross.

Divinity, my mom used to make it every year. It's kind of like a white fudge but solidified in candy form and twice as rich. I don't eat sweets these days, but if a package of Divinity happened to show up in the parcel box I wouldn't hesistate.

Haven't had divinity in years either. Was always too sweet for me.

But I suppose I could ask the FED agents assigned to poal to kindly send this user some divinity. Someone in the cubicle hell has to have some semblance of a heart still left in them, right?

A hostess I used to work with, at Christmas, made the best bourbon balls. She didn't skimp either, used Maker's Mark in them. Everyone got so snookered, that in following years, the boss wouldn't let us have any until our shift was almost over! 😵😋

Sounds like a good time.

Oyster stew? Is that a treat?

[–] 1 pt

Never had oyster stew. Sounds like something you could make year round though, like clam chowder. But I'll take that answer anyway!

My dirty secret is I love eggnog.

Shh. This is Poal. Talk about nogs and people will get the wrong idea.

Pair it with some cold coffee. You won't regret it.

Spending time with those I love.
