The moment it hatches out of an egg, an octopus can recognize itself in a mirror.
When faced with a puzzle, the octopus will work through it, looking at what is available, what can be manipulated, and then systematically try different things until it achieves the desired result.
An octopus has enough brains to control 8 limbs and camouflage itself perfectly in its environment. A groid can't even control its impulses.
