Jeans are indeed crepe paper now. I have one month new jeans that were plumber's pants style slipping down because I didn't feel like putting on my belt. I pulled up one of the belt loops and it instantly ripped to become a jeans noodle dangling in the back.

selvedge jeans - japanese ones in particular - are really well made. Pure Blue Japan, Naked and Famous, Momotaro are putting out solid offerings. Black Friday sales have them pretty discounted too, if you're looking for something.

Decent store to get an idea of what's out there. There are tons scattered across the US in larger cities, but it is a niche thing.

Also, as much as i hate to recommend it, reddit actually has a good community where you can learn about raw denim.

And in reality, once you start down the bunny trail, there community is open to more than just jeans. Clothes in general, and using production methods from 19th and 20th century, and the key to it. It's more about clothes made by people who care and who make things with soul, rather than the mass produced shit at your local HM. Of course, it does come at a cost.......
