North shore of Lake Superior, Duluth to Grand Portage MN.

Also, from Grand Marais on the North Shore take the Gunflint Trail to the end at Lake Saganaga which is in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area.

If you like open rugged terrain, Teddy Roosevelt National Park and adjacent Badlands area in western North Dakota is beautiful.
